Jan doing better!

Hello again friends and relatives of Jan,

I apologize for not posting last night. At about 8:30pm Jan awoke from her slumber and Things Immediately Changed. She complained about being hot (despite the perfectly comfortable 73 degrees F on the thermostat) so Dave lowered it a degree. Also, previously in the ER she could monitor her oxygen level, which is of great importance to her. Up in the regular rooms, the vital signs are displayed differently, and she felt like it was low and was very concerned. So she called the nurse station and requested assistance.

She was clearly anxious about her condition, even though she had just slept comfortably enough for nearly two hours. After at least ten minutes, a vital signs technician arrived and demonstrated on the machine how we could read her oxygen saturation level. It was at 87 and he adjusted the oxygen flow rate on the wall to the maximum six liters per minute, and soon thereafter she was in the mid-90s.

A nurse then arrived with a rolling cart of equipment. Jan complained about being hot, and the nurse started walking toward the thermostat to adjust it. I said "we've done that twice already in the last few minutes" and, feeling unhelpful toward the whole situation, I grabbed my things and drove to my hotel. I made phone calls to friends instead of updating the blog.

SuperDave stayed the night here on the not-comfy-looking bench seating unit. I slept in and arrived here about 11:30am to see Jan in a chair watching TV, Dave having just left. She was fairly spritely and vivacious! We visited while watching The Shop Around the Corner (1940, classic rom-com directed by Ernst Lubitsch, I've nver seen it). When Dave returned we discussed how Jan needs to have some home healthcare lined up before she is discharged.

In a bout of foolishness (which happens to me somewhat frequently) I offered to remain in town if I can stay at her house, and she agreed. So I'm gonna stick around until she gets discharged. We don't know how long that will be yet -- stay tuned!

We are watching the National League baseball game and when Dave returns, I'm going to head to my new home. I will bring my Chromebook again for another post in the morning. Good night everyone!
